The new Chief Security Officer (CSO), National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Gp Capt Umar Mohammed Awe (rtd), has embarked on security tours of study centres in the South-south geopolitical zone of the country.
The CSO was on a mission aimed at preferring permanent solutions to some security challenges encountered at some centres.
Awe, who arrived at the Port Harcourt Study Centre on Monday, December 2, 2024, was warmly received by the Centre Director, Dr. Theresa Ucheoma Ettu, senior members of staff as well as the security operatives at the centre.
Ettu took her guest on a facility tour of the centre and the exams hall, after which she had a closed door meeting with the CSO.
In a chat with NOUN News, Awe revealed that his mission in Port Harcourt and other centres in the south-south was to proffer solutions to some security challenges.
"My mission is security. I am here to ascertain how secure the centres are and to ensure that there is no foul play or malpractice in the exams. That's my mission," he said.
Asked about the impression he has scooped in his tour so far, the CSO said that he could only talk about Port Harcourt Study Centre at the moment.
"I can only talk about Port Harcourt at the moment. I am very impressed with Port Harcourt," he said.
As at the time of this report, the CSO had left Owhrode Community Study en route Sapele Community Study Centre, both in Delta State.
